Polymarket Weighs In on Possible Satoshi Nakamoto Identities Ahead of Upcoming HBO Doc – Here’s the Top Pick

by skolnes

Gamblers on crypto betting platform Polymarket are weighing in on the possible identity of pseudonymous Bitcoin (BTC) creator Satoshi Nakamoto before a new HBO documentary reveals his true name.

According to data from the Polygon (POL)-based platform, the overwhelming majority of bettors believe the documentary will reveal deceased American cryptographer Len Sassaman, known for his work on the Mixmaster anonymous retailer, as the creator of BTC.

The statistics show that 51.5% of those placing bets believe Sassaman created the flagship digital asset over a decade ago. In second place is deceased American software developer Hal Finney at 10.8% while Adam Back, the chief executive of blockchain firm Blockstream, comes in third place with 7.7%.

Others under consideration include computer scientist and legal scholar Nick Szabo, former programmer and crime boss Paul Le Roux, and Australian businessman Craig Wright, who once publicly declared to be Satoshi.

However, despite the documentary being scheduled to launch on October 8th, Polymarket data shows that 80% of bettors don’t think the true identity of Satoshi will be revealed in 2024.

In 2021, a theory appeared that named Sassaman as Satoshi. According to its author, the evidence lines up as Satoshi sent his final communication just a couple of months before Sassaman’s death on July 3rd, 2011.

Furthermore, Sassaman was an expert in the cryptography that makes up Bitcoin’s infrastructure and he was on the task force that created the TCP/IP protocol, the foundation of both the internet and BTC’s protocol.

The author also notes that Sassaman worked closely with Finney, who was said to be the first person to ever receive BTC.

Earlier this week, filmmaker Cullen Hoback, best known for his QAnon-focused documentary miniseries “Q: Into the Storm,” released a trailer for his new BTC documentary, “Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery,” which is slated to reveal the identity of Satoshi.
