Off The Grid will pay you $500 to snitch on cheating software

The hottest Web3 game of the moment, Off The Grid, has been called “unplayable” by some gamers frustrated with all the cheaters. In response, Gunzilla Games has upgraded its anti-cheating detection systems and is offering a $500 reward for anyone who rats out the unknown cheating software providing tools like aimbots, wallhacks and god mode.

“Off The Grid is unplayable at the moment because of cheaters,” gaming content creator Inspector Mindblow declared in an Oct. 24 X post, claiming that cheaters have ruined the game for him in more than half of his sessions:

“I played only 5 games where 3 of them had cheaters who ruined my experience. I love the game and hope it succeeds in fixing this, but it needs to happen ASAP.”

While he didn’t mention how the cheaters got him all riled up, plenty of Reddit users on the Off The Grid subreddit are complaining about guns that are shooting way too fast and even able to fire through walls, making it almost impossible for the goody-two-shoes, rule-following gamers to keep up.

“Just reported 4 people hacking with auto shotguns with super long range. 100% cheating,” Reddit user Holdthedoor949 wrote.

1 Castle echoed a similar complaint, “I keep seeing the super fast guns that just delete people through walls and everything. This sucks.”

Gaming commentator Scoriox added, “I just don’t understand the people that do that.”

Redditor D1SKON argued that the cheating issue is due to cheaters believing they “can make money once the currency is actually recognized.” The game is launching a token called GUN and a crypto-based marketplace and reportedly has plans to add non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

Some believe the game, which is still in the early access phase, is on a slippery downward slope if the rampant cheating isn’t resolved soon.

“Unfortunate reality right now is Off the Grid will die if it doesn’t fix the optimization + cheating issues. No amount of marketing or PR will be able to fix it. I love this game, and I don’t want to see it fail, but there was 0 reason to launch it in this state,” gaming streamer “inhuman” wrote on X.

According to the official Discord channel, if you spot any cheat software messing with the game, drop as much detail as you can in the Cheat Hunting channel. If you’re onto something, the Gunzilla team will get in touch.

But heads up — if more than one person reports the same cheat, only the first one to catch it receives the reward.

The gaming studio apparently believes the issue only applies to PC only, with the questionable claim that “cheaters do not exist on consoles.”

Enlisting the community to dob in cheaters for money has split the gaming community — some see it as a positive, while others think it’s just a lame excuse to save on resources.

Reddit user Killcycle1989 wrote, “At least they’re acknowledging it; this is a step in the right direction.”

“This has to be a next-gen business strategy, right? After, we’ll probably be fixing the bugs ourselves too,” another Reddit user stated.

Have AI tokens stolen the spotlight from gaming? Traders weigh in

Gaming tokens have been tanking over the past week.

According to CoinMarketCap data since Oct. 20, Immutable (IMX) has dropped 20% to $1.33; FLOKI (FLOKI) is down 13.2% to trade at $0.0001335; and ApeCoin (APE) has fallen 34.7%, trading at $1.02.

With AI tokens on the rise, led by a surge of interest in Goateus Maximum and its shitposting AI shill Terminal of Truths, holders are wondering if the narrative has moved on.

Crypto commentator Mr Pure Heart claimed that “many potential gaming token buyers will be rotating into AI. AI will steal the show.”

Market analysis platform IncomeSharks opined to its 551,100 X followers on Oct. 23 thatgaming has been trying to catch on for 5 years. It’s either long overdue or people still haven’t found a way to make a token work with games.”

Bull the bulls are still out there. Analyst Altcoin Psycho stated in an Oct. 23 X post that he wouldn’t be surprised if gaming is “where the next major rotation flows to,” adding that gaming tokens and infrastructure tokens are “showing some really bullish looking charts.”

MN Trading Capital’s Michael van de Poppe added, “Gaming is pacing up.”

Popular gaming streamer Matt Steffanina highlighted “how quick the sentiment on Web3 gaming can change.”

“First bullish, then bearish, now bullish again.”

Hot Take: Catizen

Why am I swiping cats around the screen like I’m browsing a feline version of Tinder?

That was my first thought when I opened up the viral Telegram clicker game, Catizen.

The game starts with cats all over the screen, and just like most of the viral clicker games I’ve tried this year, I’m sitting there thinking, “WTF am I even supposed to do with this?”

You’ve probably at least heard of Catizen, one of the most successful clicker games of 2024.

But if you’re like me and haven’t tried it yet, it brings deja vu of caring for a Tamagotchi or playing Nintendogs on your Nintendo DS.

Your job is to run a cat colony, check in on them every day, feed them, and crossbreed cats to create rarer, higher-level ones in the game. The rarer they are, the more FISH tokens the Catizen in-game currency  you can earn per second automatically.

You can use FISH to unlock upgrades and keep your cats alive by feeding them.

The goal in Catizen is to keep breeding and breeding to create the rarest cats. (Catizen)

Is it enjoyable? It depends. Did you enjoy those Tamagotchi, Nintendogs, virtual caring for pets type games? If you loved getting lost in those animal-loving games, then this one might be right up your alley.

On the plus side, crossbreeding cats adds more depth to the gameplay, so it’s not just about mindless clicking.

Honestly, I was pretty bored with Catizen after about 20 minutes. If I’m going to play a clicker game, I want to feel like I’m building an empire, not like a crazy cat lady running a cat breeding operation.

Hamster Kombat is much more up my alley, where I run my own crypto exchange.
