Vietnamese National Charged in Crypto Scam Tied to $16M Victim Loss

U.S. federal prosecutors have charged Vietnamese national Trung Nguyen Van, 37, with laundering proceeds from an alleged cryptocurrency fraud operation.

Authorities describe the operation as a “pig butchering” scam and say one victim lost approximately $16 million. Nguyen Van faces two criminal counts, according to Bitcoin.com News.

Prosecutors also allege that tens of millions of dollars more passed through his digital wallets over several years. The charges are allegations, not findings of guilt.
