Solana’s Alpenglow upgrade is scheduled for October 21, replacing TowerBFT and targeting transaction finality of 150 milliseconds.

Solana plans to introduce its Alpenglow upgrade on October 21, according to Decrypt. The update will replace the network’s TowerBFT voting system.
Alpenglow aims to reduce transaction finality from 12.8 seconds to 150 milliseconds. That figure is a target for the upgrade, rather than a confirmed performance result.
The change will also remove vote transactions from blocks entirely, altering how the network handles validator voting alongside the planned reduction in finality time.
