SEC’s Peirce Backs Zero-Knowledge Proofs for Privacy-Focused KYC
SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce called for cryptographic compliance checks that limit the personal information collected under KYC and anti-money-laundering rules.

SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce urged federal regulators to consider zero-knowledge proofs as an alternative to compliance processes that collect extensive personal data, according to The Defiant.
Speaking on Sept. 23 at SIFMA’s Digital Assets Conference, Peirce called for a shift in how regulators approach know-your-customer and anti-money-laundering requirements.
Her proposal centers on cryptographic checks that could confirm compliance without revealing the underlying personal details. The remarks advocated a different approach to verification rather than announcing a regulatory change.
