Over 11 Million Bitcoin Held in Wallets With Unidentified Owners

More than 11 million bitcoin sit in wallets whose owners are unidentified, a figure observers link to retail participation but caution against overinterpreting.

More than 11 million bitcoin are held in wallets with no identified owner, according to CoinDesk. The figure highlights how much of the cryptocurrency’s ownership remains difficult to attribute.
Observers cited in the report view these holdings as a sign that retail investors have participated in the bitcoin market for years. That interpretation, however, comes with a qualification.
An unidentified wallet does not necessarily belong to a retail investor, and an unknown owner is not the same as no owner. The total alone therefore cannot establish how much bitcoin retail investors hold.
