More Than 99% of XRP Stolen From Bitget Remains in Five Wallets
More than 99% of the 102.97 million XRP reportedly stolen from Bitget on Sept. 24 remains untouched across five newly created wallets, according to Bitcoin.com News.
Five newly created wallets still hold more than 99% of the 102.97 million XRP taken from Bitget in a Sept. 24 attack, Bitcoin.com News reported. The outlet valued the stolen XRP at approximately $157 million.
Bitget said the attackers compromised a critical backend component of its wallet infrastructure. According to the exchange, they falsified transaction data to carry out the theft.
The funds remain beyond the reach of a network-level freeze: the XRP Ledger has no mechanism to freeze native XRP balances. Their reported inactivity does not mean the assets have been secured or recovered.
