A rock kept on a Michigan farm for decades was authenticated in 2018 as the Edmore meteorite, with an estimated value of $100,000.

A 10.22-kilogram rock used as a doorstop on a Michigan farm turned out to be an iron meteorite. The object, which had remained on the property for decades, was authenticated in 2018.
Mona Sirbescu, a geologist at Central Michigan University, identified the rock as a meteorite. The Smithsonian subsequently verified the finding.
Named Edmore, the meteorite belongs to the Group IIIAB classification and consists of approximately 88.5% iron and 11.5% nickel. Its estimated value was put at around $100,000.
