Fossil Teeth Put T. Rex Body Temperature Near Human Levels
Edited by Steinar Vigdel Kolnes, Editor, Oslo
A study of chemical traces in fossil teeth estimated T. rex’s body temperature at roughly 36°C, close to that of humans.

Tyrannosaurus rex may have maintained a body temperature close to that of humans, according to research published in Science Advances on September 16, 2026.
Researchers examined chemical signatures retained in fossil teeth to estimate the dinosaur’s temperature. Their analysis yielded a figure of approximately 36 degrees Celsius, or 97 degrees Fahrenheit.
The study presents the findings as the first direct estimate of T. rex’s body temperature. The results were also featured in a September 2026 ScienceDaily report.
