Fixed-Rate Onchain Loans Enter the Real-World Asset Debate
Edited by Steinar Vigdel Kolnes, Editor, Oslo
A CoinDesk commentary highlights the case for fixed-rate blockchain lending as real-world assets move onchain.
A CoinDesk Crypto Long & Short commentary raises the question of why real-world assets need fixed-rate loans onchain, putting borrowing terms at the center of the tokenization discussion.
Fixed-rate loans give borrowers a set interest rate for an agreed period, making financing costs easier to forecast. Variable-rate borrowing, by contrast, can expose borrowers to changing costs during the life of a loan.
For blockchain-based financing tied to real-world assets, predictable interest expenses can help align debt payments with expected cash flows. Fixed rates do not, however, remove credit risk or resolve questions about collateral valuation and legal enforcement.
