A fraudster behind fake online job offers lost nearly $5 million in bitcoin through compromised hardware wallets, according to Chainalysis.

A scammer who used bogus online jobs to deceive victims lost almost $5 million in bitcoin in a Ledger hardware-wallet exploit, CoinDesk reported, citing Chainalysis.
The blockchain analytics firm identified the fraudster as one of the largest victims of the compromised wallets. The incident involved a spy-chip exploit targeting the devices.
The finding links two separate forms of crypto crime: a fake-job scheme used to defraud others and a hardware-wallet attack that ultimately cost the scheme’s operator millions.
