Ethereum Name Service is preparing an upgrade that would stop new registrations on its old registry, with no deadline for users to migrate.

Ethereum Name Service (ENS) is preparing an upgrade that would close its legacy registry to new name registrations, according to The Defiant.
The proposed migration would have no cutoff date, allowing users to choose when to move to the new system. Once completed, however, a migration could not be reversed.
Some names would not qualify for automatic reservation in the new registry. The available report does not specify which names would be excluded or when the upgrade would take effect.
