Coinbase Urges Early Start on Bitcoin’s Quantum-Resistant Upgrade
Coinbase says preparing Bitcoin for quantum threats could take years, requiring early planning for network capacity, custody and dormant coins.

Coinbase is calling for work to begin on moving Bitcoin toward quantum-resistant cryptography, arguing that the transition could require years to complete, according to Decrypt.
In a technical post, the exchange said preparations should precede any “Q-Day,” the point when quantum computers could threaten existing cryptographic protections.
Coinbase outlined requirements involving Bitcoin’s block space, custody arrangements and dormant coins. Its argument frames the migration as a long-term coordination challenge rather than a change that can wait until a quantum threat arrives.
