Circle and Tether Freeze $318,000 Linked to Bitget Hack
Circle and Tether blocked a wallet tied to the Bitget hack, but the attacker had already converted most of its funds into ETH.
Circle and Tether blacklisted an address linked to the Bitget hack, freezing roughly $318,000 in USDC and USDT, according to Decrypt.
The wallet was labeled “Bitget Exploiter 8.” The restrictions locked the stablecoins remaining at that address.
Before the issuers acted, the attacker had exchanged most of the funds for ETH. Unlike their stablecoins, ETH cannot be frozen by Circle or Tether, leaving most of the funds beyond the reach of their action.
