Payments through Coinbase’s x402 protocol topped 138 million by Q3 2026, according to Chainalysis, with most transactions involving small amounts.

A Chainalysis report puts payments through Coinbase’s x402 protocol at more than 138 million by the third quarter of 2026, up from roughly 1,500 in mid-2025.
The report describes a sharp rise in crypto payments made by AI agents, though most transactions were small in value.
U.S. wallets accounted for the largest share of spending on AI models. The findings highlight rapid growth in payment activity, rather than necessarily a comparable increase in the value transferred.
