Bitcoin and Ether Liquidity Recovers as Altcoins Lag
A year after the October 10 flash crash, bitcoin and ether market depth has recovered, but altcoin liquidity and overall spot activity remain weaker.

Bitcoin and ether have regained liquidity in the year since the October 10 flash crash, according to CoinDesk. Their order books now show greater depth than before the disruption.
The recovery has not extended to altcoins, where liquidity continues to decline. That leaves a gap between the two largest cryptocurrencies and smaller tokens.
Spot trading also remains substantially below its October 2025 peak. The stronger order books for bitcoin and ether therefore do not signal a broad recovery in trading activity.
