Australia’s ASIC Proposes Leverage Limits for Crypto-Settled Derivatives
Australia’s securities regulator has proposed extending leverage caps and negative-balance safeguards to some derivatives settled in digital assets.

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) is proposing to broaden leverage restrictions to cover certain derivatives that settle in digital assets.
The proposal would also extend negative-balance protections to those products, adding safeguards alongside the limits on leverage.
The measures remain a proposal rather than an adopted rule. Their stated scope covers certain crypto-settled derivatives, not all digital-asset products.
